Ustadha Zaynab Ansari spent four years studying sacred knowledge at Abu Nour Islamic Foundation of Damascus, Syria completing with distinction a Thanawiya Shar’iya (equivalent to a secondary school diploma). Her studies covered Arabic, Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), Qur’anic recitation (qira’at), Shafi’i jurisprudence (fiqh), the Prophetic biography (sira), Hadith, Inheritance law (mirath), and theology (tawhid). Her teachers included Ustadh Adnan al-Azmeh, Ustadha Sousan Falah, Ustadha Sanaa, Ustadha Huda al-Habash, Ustadha Samar, and Shaykh Muhammad al-Sukkar. In addition to studies at Abu Nour, Zaynab studied advanced Arabic at the University of Damascus.
Upon returning to the US, Zaynab studied under the tutelage of Ustadh Khalil Abdur-Rashid, who studied with traditional scholars in Yemen and Turkey. She holds a B.A. in History and a B.I.S. in Middle Eastern Studies from Georgia State University, graduating summa cum laude. She has taught with Sunnipath, Seekers Guidance, and writes for Azizah Magazine. She resides in Atlanta, GA. She recently relocated from Atlanta, GA to Knoxville, TN to join the Tayseer Foundation as a scholar-in-residence. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Lamppost Education Initiative
