“Imam An-Nawawwi mentions in the introduction of his work, Minhaj Al Talibeen, the reason he wrote the Minhaj, which in actuality is a shortened version of Imam Rafi’i’s Al-Mihrar, is because he felt it was a must that he write a text that would be relevant for his time. He took a previous text, shortened it, added rulings that had been left out, and other gems (as he called it) of knowledge into his text. So to re-examine older texts to allow them to become more relevant to today’s time is not only “OK”, but as Imam An-Nawwawi says, it’s a must.
